Son seeks to make three-dimensional paintings combined with built-in LED lighting system, and a kinetic element of many layered polycarbonate bulletproof glass. In this exhibition, Son presents a ‘dreamlike landscape’ that arouses a feeling of spatio-temporal depth through the use of natural scenes that exude an atmosphere of lyrical emotion in oriental painting styles and LED lighting control effects. As a matter of fact, due to the visual effect by skillfully matching up the traditional painting with the new material of cutting-edge technology, the audience tends to overlook the contents of Son’s paintings. Free Communism, Immigrant, and A Gap of Time from Son’s solo exhibition in 2010, reveal the historical wounds in our lives hidden in the peaceful landscapes filled with two overlapping images of the Statue of Liberty and North Korea, and a big pine tree while silent and calm scenery reflects on a gentle water surface. In this way, our painful wounds lurk in the hidden side of the simple landscapes that Son created, and he thus strives to feel and heal such wounds. In this exhibition, his selected major artworks will be exhibited, allowing the audience to embrace the artist's artworld.
