A particularly long cold spell has ended, and withered branches have sprouted new buds. They became mostly green leaves, and finally spring arrived with colorful flowers. With the arrival of Spring, the front page artwork of the newsletter is selected to be 《a scene_oneness with the natural I》 by artist Sang-Mi PARK, who seeks harmony with nature.

In modern society, we can see flowers in every season. Artist Sang-Mi PARK started her work with the questions of what is true nature and real harmony, after seeing a flower basket decorated in all greenish colors, and feeling sorry for it. Her work was created in order to deliver the variety of colors and warmth that nature contains. The title 《a scene_oneness with the natural I》 indicates harmony and a sense of unity with nature.

The work introduced here is a piece from the series 《a scene_oneness with the natural I》. The artist features flowers and plants in various ways, not only in this series, but also in her other work.
She tries to express the people of today in the form of plants or flowers. In the past, they were shown in black and white and nowadays, she paints them in various colors.
The artist commented, “Flowers on the canvas represent vitality and hope. I use various colors in order to express hope,” and added, “Plants and flowers are growing and disappearing repeatedly in the picture. I want to focus on the symbolic aspects of them and highlight their presence.”

She continued, “In the world we live in, there is no eternal or stable place. We live in a time of fast transition and it seems like there is no truth. We exhaust our lives everyday, but I want to talk about the light of hope in our minds by expressing plants in the picture.” Saying this, she revealed her hopefulness.

Meanwhile, the artist is preparing for her private exhibition 「Coexisting Space」 at Leehwaik Gallery, which opens June 15. She depicts landscapes created by the plants around us. In the exhibition, a series of pictures focusing on ‘color’ and ‘line’ will be introduced.
