Since it was established in 2011, the Korean Artist Project, also known as KAP, has grown over the course of six years. This year, it will feature an additional fourteen artists, for a total of 100 artists and over 7,500 pieces in the collection. Below, you can see an introduction to new business plans and projects coming up in the new year.

Establishing new archive for 2016
The spotlight of this year’s KAP business is on establishing its online archive.
By 2015, KAP had acquired 6,500 pieces of work from 86 artists, a virtual reality exhibition hall, and 172 interviews in both Korean and English. This year, KAP will hold on open call inviting 14 more artists to participate, raising the total number of KAP artists to 100.

The KAP team will select the artists this April and connect them to museums that are part of The Korean Art Museum Association. After that, curators from each museum will set up a high-quality private exhibition for each artist to reveal his or her distinct personality in the virtual reality exhibition hall (VR exhibition). Additionally, high-resolution images of the artwork, the artists’ information, critics’ reviews and the artists’ individual archives will be provided in both Korean and English.
Also, domestic and international news from all of the involved artists and information about each KAP-partnered museum will be announced.

Newsletter Renewal
The KAP newsletter has been issued monthly in the form of a bulletin. Starting this January, Issue 21 of the KAP newsletter will be presented online as a webzine. It will feature specialized issues in Korean and English. The contents will include in-depth relay interviews with KAP artists, studio visits, as well as the latest news about Korean and international exhibitions and new work by the artists. The newsletter will also include behind-the-scenes stories and contents of virtual reality exhibitions, special articles on the front page artwork of each issue, and other KAP-related news.

Improving the archive function on the existing website
The website will be improved by referencing excellent foreign online art platforms, and upgrading search and tag functions, focusing on user-centric design.

Additionally, KAP has been partnered with the Google Art Project since 2011, and is involved in contributing its artwork to the project. By June, the artwork will be organized and displayed in a new online exhibition. The in-depth interviews with KAP artists that have been featured in The Korea Times from July 2014 to December 2015 will be replaced with the latest KAP business news of this year. KAP has established a webpage in Artsy, an international art platform, and will be more active than ever with continuous updates, and ongoing connections with other art news outlets. (02)735-4033
