As the nation’s first private museum, the Total Museum of Contemporary Art started as a gallery for designers in 1976 and is located on Daehak-no, Dongsoondong in Seoul. In 1992, the museum opened a space in Pyungchangdong, Jongnogu in order to survey arts and gradually settled as the main branch. The Pyungchangdong location became a multicultural space that broadly accommodates various genres of art and culture as well as facilitating educational programs, book publications, lectures, workshops, and seminars. The museum provides an opportunity for viewers to recharge while enjoying an abundance of art. In collaboration with artists, the museum takes on a role as cultural producer generating creative vitality and unlimited experimental spirit, becoming a space of in-depth communication about and through art.
